Eyes are one of the most dominant senses of all the five senses of human beings. It enhances the beauty of human face ,so its very essential that we take good care of our eyes internally as well as externally.
Dark circles under your eyes play a major role in hampering the beauty of your face.They are also called as eye circles,which are nothing but blemishes under the eyes or around the eyes.
Color of dark circles can be purple or blue or dark brown or black depending on skin color. There are variety of reasons that cause dark circles like heredity, trauma, stress, lack of sleep, fluid retention, allergies, hyper-pigmentation because of excess melanin production, less levels of fatty tissues around eyes, smoking, dehydration, exposure to sunlight, thyroid conditions etc.
In many individuals as they get aged , the collagen is lost and skin becomes thin around eyes which enhances the appearance of blood vessels under eyes which makes that area appear darker.

Stress and fatigue are also major reason that increase tendency to develop dark circles.Local swelling or fluid imbalance cause puffy or swollen eyelids which cause shadows,making under eye area appear darker.
Having dark circles is always not a sign of serious medical condition.Knowingly or unknowingly we develop habits that contribute to increase our dark circles like watching late night movies, chatting on mobile late night,over drinking, sometimes we forget our sunblock cream when we go to beach or don't apply it regularly before going out of home ,or also due to fatigue we avoid moisturizing with night cream
Exposure to scorching sunlight can enhance collagen breaking process, so to mitigate that we need to consistently apply sunscreen lotion from young age.
Genetics plays a part in developing dark circles.Genes determine the quality of skin we will have and also our looks.
Allergies of dust or mold or seasonal allergies trigger release of histamines which cause inflammation of blood vessels under eye that causes swelling as well.
Below are some practices which you can implement in daily life to prevent and cure dark circles.
1. Adequate amount of sleep
Sound and long sleeping hours can help you reduce the dark circles or prevent them from appearing on your skin.Elevating your head on extra pillows also contribute to reduce dark circles as it prevents fluid from pooling under your eyes.Free yourself from stress and anxiety before sleeping so that you take good quality sleep.
Cucumber constitutes silica which is very important for healthy tissues. High water content and presence of vitamin C in them helps them to nurture and soothes the skin under eye.It helps in moisturizing the area under eye and also reduce swelling.
Cucumbers have skin lightening and mild astringent properties .We need to slice the cucumber into circle shape and keep in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. Then place those slices on eyes for at least 10 minutes.We need to rinse the area with warm or cold water.
We can also mix equal quantity of lemon juice and cucumber juice and mix these both and apply on eye area using cotton balls or soft cotton cloth piece.Leave this mixture for about 15 minutes.We need to be cautious to prevent it from entering into our eyes.You can use cucumber once in a day.
Potatoes are rich source of vitamin C , they help in synthesis of collagen and enhance skin glow and make it look young and healthy.We need to grate some potatoes and extract juice from it ,soak cotton pads in juice and keep on eyes for 10 minutes and rinse with warm water.Use this method once or twice in a week for best results.
4. Orange juice + Glycerin
Orange juice is rich in vitamin A & C which helps us prevent and remove dark circles.Take 2 spoon of orange juice and add 5-6 drops of glycerin.Soak cotton pads in this mixture and apply on eye for at least 15 minutes and rinse later with warm/cold water you can repeat this everyday or every alternate day. 5. Vitamin E oil

Poor blood circulation around eyes can make eyes look dull and cause dark circles and puffiness around eyes.
Massage around the eye area through facial can help to improve blood circulation.
You can massage your eyes using index finger in circular motion , apply a moisturizer before massaging.
9.Remove makeup correctly
Clean your face properly before bedtime. Do not sleep with makeup on your face, Do not rub mascara or eyeliner through bare hands instead use professional makeup removing solution.
10.Moisturize your under eye skin twice daily
You can use light moisturizer with SPF in daytime and heavy moisturizer and eye cream before going to bed.Apply moisturizer on clean and dry skin.
11 . Intake Salmon and Dark Chocolate
Salmon is rich content of omega 3's which improve blood flow into skin,it prevents blood to pool around our eyes and prevent under eye circles.Dark chocolate contains flavonol which protects against harmful effects of UV radiations and helps in slowing down aging process due to increased exposure to sun.
12. Keep yourself hydrated
When there is more salt in your body compared to water then you feel and look bloated.
The skin under our eyes is thin and prone to dehydration ,so you need to keep yourself hydrated especially after you intake salty meal.
Tomato juice is very good for exfoliating skin.
Mix lemon juice and tomato juice in same quantity and massage that mixture under eye area daily.Leave it for 20 minutes and wash with coconut water for better results.
14. Retinoid Creams
Retinoid creams are available in medical and cosmetics stores.Use of this creams promotes production of collagen and improves dark circles appearance.They also help decrease melanin content in skin.But the drawback is that these creams are not suitable for everyone so we need to consult dermatologist before using these creams.
15. Wash face with warm water.
Always keep habit of washing your face with warm water.Avoid using hot water to wash face as it makes eyes redder and puffier.
16. Allergy medicines
If dark circles are due to some allergy then taking antihistamines helps reduce eye bags and puffiness.You can get antihistamines over the counter check with your doctor before using it.
17. Chilled Milk
Milk is rich source of vitamin A.It contains retinoids that help skin look bright,Soak cotton pads in bowl of milk and keep in refrigerator until it cools.Apply those cotton pads on eye and let them stay for 10 minutes.Rinse your eyes with warm water,do this once or twice daily until you notice the result.
18. Rose water
Rose water acts as astringent and is good skin toner.It helps to rejuvenate tired under eye skin.We need to soak cotton pads in rose water for few minutes and keep them in refrigerator for 5 minutes and let the soaked pads sit on your eyes for 15 minutes.Do this twice daily for good results.
19. Mint leaves
These leaves contains vitamin C which helps in making the skin under eye look brighter.
Menthol present in mint leaves help improve blood circulation and rejuvenation of skin.It also works well as astringent that helps in contracting blood vessels around eyes and helps reduce blue tint.
We can blend few mint leaves with water and apply them on eye area and leave it for 10 minutes and rinse it with warm water.
20. Aloe Vera Pulp
Aloe Vera contains essentials vitamins like E,C, B12 and A that helps repair your skin and give soothing effect to your eyes as well. It has anti-inflammatory and anti aging properties.Aloe Vera is very good moisturizer. We need to first clean the under eye area and then apply the extracted pulp of aloe vera and massage it well so that it blends well into the skin.We can do this before bedtime and morning we can wash face with cold or warm water.
21. Liquorice Extract
Liquorice optimizes blood circulation under eyes and also reduces pigmentation because of the presence of glabridin.
It also protects skin from harmful UV rays.
Take a vitamin K capsule and add 3-4 drops of liquorice extract to it.Mix it well and make a paste of it,apply this mixture on affected area for atleast 10 minutes,wash with regular water later. You can use this twice a week to remove dark circles.
Dark circles are caused by variety of factors like your diet, physical activities, your sleep patterns and metal health.
