What are the causes for hair loss?
#1 Poor nutrition
As the old Saying goes- You are what you eat!! Thus, consuming a diet rich in proteins, Vitamins & minerals like - Eggs, Nuts, Fish, Seeds (Flax, Chia, Pumpkin seeds) would go a long way in preventing hair fall especially if the problem is due to poor nutrition. So, be cautious of what you eat!! Also, keep yourself well- hydrated!!
#2 Underlying diseases
A list of harmful chemicals like Sulfates, Parabens, Propylene glycol etc. found in hair care products such as shampoos, hair colorants etc. are extremely toxic and may work in other undermined ways than just causing hair loss. Hair dyes can also physically weaken the hair shaft, increases breakage & causes temporary hair loss. So, shun the colorants!!
Some medications like Blood thinners, steroids, anti-depressants, birth control pills etc. cause hair loss. Vitamin A supplements in high doses are also known to cause hair-loss.
#5 Hair-styling & Hair treatments
Human hair is made of Keratin, a protein. Excessive use of hot hair styling tools like curling irons, tongs & blow-dryers strip of your hair of its natural oils & protein thus making it fragile, leading to hair loss. So, use them wisely!!
#6 Hormonal changes
Extreme hair fall is agonizing, stressful & is definitely a reason to ponder. Ironically, Stress is one of the major reasons for hair fall. So, do not get worked-up!
De-stress yourself! You can do this by practicing meditation & Yoga, the best way to calm your mind & get your hormonal balance restored.
#8 Climatic conditions & UV radiations
Seasonal changes often result in hair loss. Excessive exposure to UV radiations from the sun can also irreversibly damage the hair& cause hair loss.
#9 Chemotherapy and Radiation
Drugs that are used to treat cancer like Cisplatin, Doxorubicin, Doxytaxel, Cyclophosphamide may cause sudden loss of hair (alopecia areata)that can be distressing , though temporary. Similarly, radiation therapy also causes thinning of hair and in some cases sudden hair loss as it tends to destroy not only the cancerous cells but also the healthy cells of your body.
You may also experience hair loss if you have undergone a major surgery or if you are affected by certain diseases like Typhoid, Jaundice etc. Ringworm infection (fungal infection) of the scalp may also cause hair loss & if neglected may lead to balding.
#11 Heredity & Aging
Hereditary- pattern baldness witnessed in a significant number of people is primarily attributed to the genetic make- up. Changes in the hormone levels that occur with age leads to androgenic alopecia in males. Women too notice significant hair loss with age, mainly after menopause.
#12 Bad hair habits
Vigorous rubbing of wet hair with dry towel, combing of wet hair, pulling your hair back & tying it up tightly all the time (tight pony-tails) can put too much of stress on the scalp ultimately causing traction alopecia. So, break the habit!! The softer & more flexible the hair tie is, the better!

My beautiful ladies! Am sharing two simple therapies that worked quite well in my favor. So, do give it a try ….!!
Secret therapy 1
Take a hand full of Curry leaves, Henna leaves, and 5-7 Hibiscus flowers. Dry them for a couple of days (Not in direct sunlight). Take 5 de-seeded dried Amla (Indian Gooseberry) & grind it coarsely in the mixer grinder.
Grind the dried leaves as well. Transfer the contents into virgin coconut oil along with a teaspoon full of fenugreek seeds. Boil the oil for good 30 minutes until the color of oil changes.
Cool it and store it in a glass bottle. Apply the oil to your scalp & massage it at least twice a week for good results.
Secret therapy 2
This therapy not only minimizes hair fall but also makes the hair look lustrous & shiny. Take half cup of yogurt, add the white of an egg to it, add two tablespoons of coconut oil/ olive oil and a teaspoon full of honey. Whisk the mixture well.
Apply this to your scalp and allow it to remain for at least 30 minutes. Rinse your hair with a mild shampoo.
If you wish to be successful in life, you need to wear your confidence..!
For a modern woman who is not only health conscious but also beauty conscious, hair health matters a lot ! It boosts her morale and makes her more confident.
It is quite natural to lose approximately 100 strands a day. But unexplained, excessive hair loss can be quite scary and is definitely a cause of concern. It could also be indicative of some underlying disease.
Hence, as a precautionary measure it is better to seek intervention of a medical practitioner to rule out the possibility of thyroid, anemia or scalp infection. On the contrary, if the reason for hair fall is either nutritional deficiency or seasonal change or illness then you can very well tackle it by resorting to some simple house-hold remedies like the ones discussed above.
Do remember!! Just like your body & skin needs constant pampering & attention, your hair needs them too!! Apparently, a regulated diet that is rich in protein, a dedicated hair care regime and simple life style changes will ensure that your hair remains healthy always!
